MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING IS ONE OF THE NATION’S LARGEST TAX EXEMPT CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS.
Because MADD is a tax exempt 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) charitable organ-ization, individuals and business entities that give money to MADD are able to write off their donations to MADD as tax deductions on their income tax returns. In this way, MADD manages to receive tens of millions of tax exempt dollars that are used to fund MADD’s political agenda.
What exactly MADD does with all the money is a most interesting question. The National Charities Information Bureau website reports that it’s requests to MADD for information have gone unanswered. Under the IRS Code, certain activities are considered impermissible for tax exempt charitable organizations. Those activities include, but are not limited to:
The reason the IRS Code considers such activities as impermissible is due primarily to the fact that Congress does not think it wise to allow political organizations that may actively work to undermine the rights and liberties of American citizens to be able to do so while utilizing a government tax subsidy. Makes sense doesn’t it?
MADD’s publicly acknowledged political agenda is available for viewing on the internet. Unless this webpage encourages MADD to modify it or remove it from public view, MADD’s political agenda may be found at www.madd.org/pub_pol/positions_other.shtml.
